A whole-house rental near Las Vegas

Las Vegas is east of the ranch, over Mountain Springs Summit on NV-160. The drive is a good one. We come back to the pool and the fire pit when the day is done. It is our whole-house rental near Las Vegas, and we live here between sails.

Harry Reid (LAS) is about 68 miles, the same way. Grocery shop and fill the tank in Pahrump on the way in from the airport. The ranch is in Country View Estates, about 10 minutes north of the Highway 160 shops.

The Strip is about 65 miles from the ranch, and Red Rock Canyon is about 60 miles. Death Valley, the other direction, is on Places to stay near Death Valley.

On the Las Vegas side

Red Rock Canyon is a 13-mile scenic drive through red sandstone. From October 1 through May 31 the scenic drive needs a timed-entry reservation between 8 am and 5 pm. BLM

Mount Charleston is in the Spring Mountains, about 90 miles and 1 hour 50 minutes via Las Vegas, US-95 to NV-157 (Kyle Canyon). Start at the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway. The Mary Jane Falls trailhead is closed after storm damage, so pick another trail. Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest

Downtown is Fremont Street, the Mob Museum, the Neon Museum, and Container Park. Springs Preserve and Hoover Dam are both worth it if you have the extra hours. Hoover Dam is farther still, past Las Vegas, so don’t treat it as a quick add-on to a Strip evening. Hoover Dam

Closer to the ranch

Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch is about 15 miles and 20–25 minutes, a road course of more than 6 miles. Sundance Ranch does horseback rides. Charleston Peak Winery, formerly Pahrump Valley Winery, is about 11 miles and 15 minutes. Sanders Family Winery is temporarily closed.
